RTAG Scholarship – Rules and Conditions

RTAG – The Veteran to Aviation Charity

RTAG Scholarships are designed to assist United States military veterans and current Servicemembers with the cost of aviation training, with the ultimate goal of helping them transition into careers within the aviation industry.

By submitting an application, I acknowledge that I have read, understand, and agree to the following rules and conditions:

1. Scholarship Purpose

The intent of RTAG Scholarships is to support the transition of qualified veterans and Servicemembers into aviation careers by funding costs directly related to approved training. Training must be completed with an RTAG-approved provider and meet all applicable certification requirements.

2. Application Period

Scholarship applications will be accepted during the announced application window. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

Submission of an application does not guarantee selection or award.

3. Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be currently serving or honorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces.
  • Be an active member of RTAG.
  • Meet all certification and medical requirements applicable to the scholarship for which they are applying.
  • Have access to a training facility, equipment, and instructor support.
  • Have reliable transportation and availability to attend training on a regular basis.
  • Intend to pursue a career within the aviation industry.

4. Application Requirements

Documentation of Military Service

  • Veterans: Copy of DD Form 214 (Social Security Numbers must be redacted).
  • Current Servicemembers: Copy of ORB, ERB, SRB, Career Data Brief, My Member Info printout, or equivalent documentation (Social Security Numbers must be redacted).

Additional Supporting Documents

  • All additional documents required by the specific scholarship for which the applicant is applying.
  • A one-page professional résumé.
  • A written explanation of financial need.
  • A written description of volunteer service outside the military, including at least one reference.

Essay Requirement

Applicants must submit a 300–500 word essay addressing the following:

  • How did you become interested in aviation?
  • What was your job while serving in the military?
  • Why do you want to pursue a career in aviation?
  • How will this scholarship help fund your training?

RTAG reserves the right to verify all submitted information and supporting documentation.

5. Selection Criteria

Scholarships will be awarded individually based on:

  • The overall strength and completeness of the application.
  • The quality, clarity, and sincerity of the essay and supporting materials.
  • Demonstrated financial need and community involvement.

All personally identifiable information will be redacted prior to review. The RTAG Board of Directors will serve as the selection panel.

Scholarship selection shall be made without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, or disability status.

6. Award and Disbursement

  • All scholarship awards are at the sole discretion of the RTAG Board and are contingent upon available funding.
  • Funds will be paid directly to the approved training provider listed in the application.
  • Scholarships are non-transferable and may not be reassigned to another individual or training provider.
  • Scholarship recipients must begin training within 90 days of award notification unless otherwise approved by RTAG.
  • Recipients must provide regular updates and progress documentation upon request.

7. Use of Funds

Scholarship funds may only be used for training-related expenses directly associated with the scholarship awarded, including tuition, instruction fees, required testing fees, and required training materials.

Funds may not be used for non-training expenses including lodging, meals, transportation, or unrelated coursework.

All scholarship funds must be used within 24 months of the award date. Any unused funds remaining after the 24-month period will be forfeited and returned to RTAG.

8. Conduct and Representation

Recipients are expected to:

  • Represent RTAG with professionalism, integrity, and humility.
  • Refrain from conduct that could negatively reflect upon RTAG or the veteran community.
  • Follow all applicable regulatory, institutional, and training provider standards regarding conduct and substance use.

Failure to adhere to these expectations may result in revocation of the scholarship and forfeiture of unused funds.

9. Publicity and Media Release

By accepting a scholarship award, I grant RTAG the right to use my name, image, story, and training progress for promotional purposes, including RTAG's website, newsletters, marketing materials, and social media platforms.

10. Acknowledgment

I understand and accept that RTAG reserves the right to amend, suspend, or revoke any scholarship award for failure to comply with these rules and conditions or for conduct inconsistent with RTAG's mission and values.
