RTAG A&P Scholarship – Rules and Conditions

RTAG – The Veteran to Aviation Charity

The RTAG A&P Training Scholarship assists United States military veterans and current Servicemembers in obtaining FAA Airframe & Powerplant certification through an intensive preparation course provided by our training partner, Matta Aviation Services, in Manhattan, Kansas (MHK).

By submitting an application, I acknowledge that I have read, understand, and agree to the following rules and conditions:

1. Scholarship Purpose

The intent of the RTAG A&P Training Scholarship is to support the transition of qualified veterans and Servicemembers into aviation maintenance careers by funding attendance at the FAA A&P Prep Course provided by Matta Aviation Services, including preparation for the FAA written, oral, and practical examinations.

2. Application Period

Scholarship applications will be accepted during the announced application window. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

Submission of an application does not guarantee selection or award.

3. Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be currently serving or honorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces.
  • Be an active member of RTAG.
  • Possess a valid FAA-endorsed Form 8610-2 prior to attending the course.
  • Be able to travel to Manhattan, Kansas (MHK) and attend the 10-day course in its entirety.
  • Intend to pursue a career within the aviation industry.

4. Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a complete application during the application window, including all required supporting documents: proof of military service (DD-214 or equivalent), a professional one-page resume, a statement of financial need, a description of volunteer service outside of the military with at least one reference, and the required scholarship essay.

5. Selection Criteria

Scholarships will be awarded individually based on:

  • The overall strength and completeness of the application.
  • The quality, clarity, and sincerity of the essay and supporting materials.
  • Demonstrated financial need and community involvement.

All personally identifiable information will be redacted prior to review. The RTAG Board of Directors will serve as the selection panel.

Scholarship selection shall be made without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, or disability status.

6. Award and Disbursement

  • All scholarship awards are at the sole discretion of the RTAG Board and are contingent upon available funding.
  • Funds will be paid directly to Matta Aviation Services on behalf of the selected recipients.
  • Scholarships are non-transferable and may not be reassigned to another individual or training provider.
  • Recipients must attend a scheduled course session as coordinated between RTAG, the recipient, and Matta Aviation Services.

7. What the Scholarship Includes

The scholarship covers attendance at the Matta Aviation Services FAA A&P Prep Course, including tuition and instruction, required testing fees, required training materials, lodging during the course, ground transportation during the course, and snacks provided during class sessions.

8. Recipient Financial Responsibilities

The following expenses are not covered by the RTAG A&P Training Scholarship and are the sole financial responsibility of the recipient:

  • Airfare and all travel costs to and from Manhattan Regional Airport (MHK), Manhattan, Kansas.
  • Meals and personal food expenses outside of snacks provided during class sessions.
  • Personal expenses incurred before arrival at or after departure from the training facility.
  • Retesting fees, additional written examination attempts, or additional DME oral and practical examination attempts resulting from failure to pass an examination.

Recipients are responsible for arranging and funding their own travel to MHK prior to the course start date. Failure to arrive on time may result in forfeiture of the scholarship award.

9. Conduct and Representation

Recipients are expected to:

  • Represent RTAG with professionalism, integrity, and humility.
  • Refrain from conduct that could negatively reflect upon RTAG or the veteran community.
  • Follow all applicable regulatory, institutional, and training provider standards regarding conduct and substance use.

Failure to adhere to these expectations may result in revocation of the scholarship.

10. Publicity and Media Release

By accepting a scholarship award, I grant RTAG the right to use my name, image, story, and training progress for promotional purposes, including RTAG's website, newsletters, marketing materials, and social media platforms.

11. Acknowledgment

I understand and accept that RTAG reserves the right to amend, suspend, or revoke any scholarship award for failure to comply with these rules and conditions or for conduct inconsistent with RTAG's mission and values.
